Subject Wanted for Questioning in Connection with a Theft at Washington Adventist Hospital - Community Advisory
The subject in the attached photograph (best quality photo available) is wanted for questioning in connection with a theft that occurred on September 7, 2012 at approximately 9:50 pm from the Washington Adventist Hospital (WAH). He is also wanted for questioning in two other suspected thefts from the WAH. The subject is a black male, approximately 6’ ft tall and approximately 175 Ibs. Subject was last seen in a red shirt with white stripes, blue jeans, and a blue backpack.

Basic Self-Defense Course on the Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) System - Community Advisory
The Takoma Park Police Department will be conducting a basic self-defense course based on the Rape Aggression Defense (R.A.D.) system. It is designed for women only and will teach women techniques on how to escape an attacker. The instructional objective of the course is "to develop and enhance the options of self-defense, so they may become viable considerations to the woman who is attacked." (R.A.D. systems) For more information, please visit http://rad-systems.com/index.html. The course is 12 hours and will be a combination of classroom lecture and physical training (don't be intimidated by the physical training Remember, this course is designed to teach women how to ESCAPE an attacker, NOT how to fight an attacker). Each class will build on previous classes. The course is free, and there is a limit of 12 students per session. Classes will be held in the Azalea room of the Takoma Park Community Center and times will be 6:30-8:30 pm. Following are the dates.

400 blk. of Boston Ave., on Thursday, August 30th at 8:06 p.m., officers responded to a theft that just occurred. Two male suspects approached a female victim as she walked and forcibly grabbed the victim’s purse. The suspects fled on foot. The victim was unharmed.

7500 blk. of Holly Ave., on Friday, August, 31st at 1:01 a.m., officers responded to an assault that occurred earlier. A male suspect assaulted a juvenile male victim during an argument that tuned physical.

7300 blk. of Baltimore Ave., on Monday, September 3rd at 9:36 p.m., officers responded to a theft that occurred earlier. Unknown suspect(s) entered the victim’s residence by unknown means and stole property.

220 blk. of Park Ave., on Sunday, September 2nd at 8:57 p.m., officers responded to a theft that occurred earlier. Unknown suspect(s) stole a laptop from an unlocked garage.

Educational Class on the Taser for the Public - Community Advisory
The TASER, which is a type of electronically controlled weapon (ECW), has had a significant influence in American law enforcement agencies. Perhaps no other weapon has had such a dramatic impact. When used appropriately with a full understanding of their risks, ECWs are useful weapons that can effectively help officers to resolve serious situations. ECWs can reduce the need for more dangerous weapons and lower officer and subject injury rates (2011 Electronic Control Weapon Guidelines).
As part of the Takoma Park Police Department’s effort to increase awareness of the TASER, which our officers are authorized to carry and often use in field, we will be holding an educational presentation to the public on how the TASER works, its advantages to law enforcement, and a brief overview of our department’s policies on use of the TASER. In providing this educational presentation, we hope to provide community members a clear understanding of the weapon as well as to clarify any misconceptions in reference to TASER use. Those who attend may also voluntarily request to have the TASER deployed on them.
The educational presentation will be held on Friday, September 7 from 6-7:30 pm in the auditorium of the Takoma Park Community Center at 7500 Maple Avenue. Citizen's Police Academy Back for its Second Season! - Community Advisory
The Citizens' Police Academy is back for its second session! The course is designed to educate citizens on the required duties and obligations of a police officer, and it will provide a glimpse into all aspects of the City’s police department that make it run smoothly on a daily basis. Session II will commence on September 20, 2012 from 7-9 p.m. each Thursday night for 12 consecutive weeks. Sessions will be held at the Takoma Park Community Center, and there is no cost to participate. You must be 18 years of age and pass a background check.
