The National Weather Service has issued a TORNADO WATCH for Montgomery County effective immediately.
Be prepared. Tornadoes can form from severe thunderstorms with little or no advanced warning. Know your safe room in your home, at school, and at work. Remain alert for the issuance of warnings.
The safest place to be during a tornado is in a basement. Fit under a work bench or other piece of sturdy furniture. If no basement is available, seek shelter on the lowest floor in a hallway or closet. Use blankets or pillows to cover your body and always stay away from windows.
Evacuate mobile homes and vehicles immediately. Do not use highway overpasses as shelters. If no shelter is available, lie flat in the nearest ditch or other low spot and cover your head with your hands.
Do not wait to hear or see this tornado before you take action. Tornadoes that form at night and those that are rain wrapped may not be visible.

CORRECTION Citizen's Police Academy - Community Advisory

The Citizens' Police Academy is back for its second session! The course is designed to educate citizens on the required duties and obligations of a police officer, and it will provide a glimpse into all aspects of the City’s police department that make it run smoothly on a daily basis. Session II will commence on September 20, 2012 from 7-9 p.m. each Thursday night for 12 consecutive weeks. Sessions will be held at the Takoma Park Community Center, and there is no cost to participate. You must be 18 years of age and pass a background check. The deadline for registration is July 31, 2012 - but don't delay! The session is limited to the first 20 students. Please contact the community policing officer at carlam@takomagov.org if you have any questions or would like to register.

Severe Weather Expected - Community Advisory
There is a significant chance of severe weather this evening beginning around 4:00 PM in the Metropolitan DC area, including thunderstorms and high wind gusts. Residents and business owners should secure loose objects on their property including trash receptacles, recycling bins, and patio furniture, to prevent items from being tossed about and causing damage to other property.

Residential Burglary - Community Advisory
On May 30, 2012, Takoma Park Police responded to the 100 block of Ritchie Avenue for reports of a residential burglary that had occurred some time between 8:30 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. The victim arrived home to find property missing from the unattached garage. There are no known suspects.
Investigation continues under case #12026211. Anyone with information about this crime is asked to please call us at 301.270.1100.

Ricucci of the Takoma Park Police Department announces today a fourth Crime Prevention and Personal Safety seminar for the City of Takoma Park called Refuse to be a Victim, to be taught by Crime Prevention Specialist, Janice Hart, of the Front Royal, Virginia, Police Department. This seminar will be held on Wednesday, June 27, 2012, from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. This seminar is open to all residents and will be held in the Council auditorium on the 2nd floor of the City Building, 7500 Maple Avenue, Takoma Park, Maryland. Chief Ricucci also invites and strongly encourages residents of Silver Spring to attend this seminar; Takoma Park residents please feel free to share this e-mail with your Montgomery County neighbors.

These are the types of questions that men and women ponder prior to attending a Refuse to be a Victim crime prevention and personal safety seminar.
