National Night Out 2012 - TONIGHT - Community Advisory

Mark your calendars for this year's National Night Out event!

National Night Out, celebrated by police departments across the nation, is a unique crime/drug prevention event sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW). The Takoma Park Police Department will be hosting its own community event in celebration of this campaign. The department’s goal is to heighten safety and crime prevention awareness; to support locally-based businesses, groups, and organizations; and to strengthen relationships among community members and between the community and local police department.

The event is free, so bring your whole family and invite all your friends! This year’s event will include informational brochures on various safety topics and crime prevention, food, games, give-aways, and live music. There will be police vehicles on display, officers and their horses from the Park Police mounted division, a canine demonstration, McGruff the Crime Dog, child fingerprint kits & child fingerprinting, a moon bounce, face painting, Carmen’s Italian Ice truck… just to name a few! Did I mention that the event is FREE?

Stolen Auto - Community Advisory

On August 6, 2012, at approximately 12:30 a.m., Takoma Park Police responded to the unit block of New Hampshire Avenue for reports of a stolen auto from in front of the victim's residence. The outstanding stolen vehicle is described as a white 2002 Ford Expedition, Maryland tag #55257M5.
The outstanding vehicle has been entered into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) stolen vehicle database. Investigation continues under case #12038640. Anyone with information about this crime is asked to please call us at 301.270.1100.

Child Safety Tip - Community Advisory

Before departing with children/grandchildren/kids to any event, take a second, pull out your cell phone and take individual pictures of each child. That way, if the unthinkable happens and a child gets lost, you have a picture of how they are dressed and what they looked like that day.

The photo can then be immediately sent to police to aid in locating the child. Seconds can be precious in this scenario, so take a second, make it a habit and take a picture!

Attempt Theft from Auto - Community Advisory

On August 3, 2012, at approximately 9:20 a.m., Takoma Park Police responded to the 1100 block of Merwood Drive for reports of an attempt theft from auto that occurred sometime between August 2nd at 6:30 p.m. and August 3rd at 8:30 a.m. Unknown subject(s) gained entry to the vehicle by smashing the rear passenger window. Property was not missing from the vehicle.
Investigation continues under case #12038201. Anyone with information about this crime is asked to please call us at 301.270.1100.

Theft from Auto - Community Advisory

On August 3, 2012, at approximately 7:00 a.m., Takoma Park Police responded to the 1200 block of Holton Lane for reports of a theft from auto that occurred sometime between August 2nd at 10:30 p.m. and August 3rd at 6:30 a.m. Unknown suspect(s) broke the passenger side window of the vehicle to gain access. Property Was taken.
Investigation continues under case #12038183. Anyone with information about this crime is asked to please call us at 301.270.1100.
