Metro will perform major track work over the weekend of January 20-22 on all five rail lines. The work will begin at 10 p.m. Friday and continue through system closing on Sunday.
Here is information about how each line is affected:
Red Line
Crews will continue to advance NTSB-recommended track circuit replacement, a key step toward restoring automatic train operations. This weekend's work will take place between Bethesda and Grosvenor, with buses replacing trains between those two stations. In addition, Medical Center Station will be closed, with alternate shuttle service provided.
•Beginning at 10 p.m. Friday and continuing through system closing on Sunday, shuttle buses will replace Red Line trains between Bethesda and Grosvenor.
•Red Line trains will operate at normal weekend intervals in two sections: between Shady Grove and Grosvenor and between Bethesda and Glenmont.
•Medical Center station will be closed.
•On Friday night, the last Glenmont-bound Red Line train to operate before work begins will depart Shady Grove at 9:43 p.m. and depart Bethesda at 10 p.m. The last Shady Grove-bound train will depart Glenmont at 9:05 p.m. and Bethesda at 9:50 p.m.
•The last Red Line train from Shady Grove will depart 15 minutes earlier than usual -- at 2:15 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights (early Saturday and Sunday), and at 11:15 p.m. on Sunday night.
•Customers traveling through the work zone should allow about 20 minutes of additional travel time.
Orange Line
•Trains will single track between East Falls Church and West Falls Church for testing of the Dulles rail project, and between Stadium-Armory and Cheverly for platform rehabilitation.
•Orange Line trains will depart Vienna and New Carrollton every 24 minutes. Service will be coordinated with the Blue Line to provide service every 12 minutes at stations from Rosslyn to Stadium-Armory.
Additional trains will be operated based on ridership and available track space.
Blue Line
•Trains will single track between Braddock Road and Van Dorn Street for rail rehabilitation.
•Blue Line trains will depart Franconia-Springfield and Largo Town Center every 24 minutes. Service will be coordinated with the Orange Line to provide service every 12 minutes at stations from Rosslyn to Stadium-Armory. Additional trains will be operated based on ridership and available track space.
Green Line
•Trains will single track between Naylor Road and Branch Avenue for rail renewal.
•Green Line trains will depart endpoint every 24 minutes. Additional trains will be operated based on ridership and available track space.
Yellow Line
•Trains will single track between Braddock Road and Huntington for rail rehabilitation.
•Yellow Line trains will operate between Huntington and Mt. Vernon Square every every 24 minutes. Additional trains will be operated based on ridership and available track space. Customers traveling to/from stations north of Mt. Vernon Square should use Green Line trains to complete their trip.
