Arrest Warrants Issued for Two Suspects in Takoma Park Armed Robberies - News Release

Chief Ronald A. Ricucci from the Takoma Park Police Department announces that arrest warrants have been filed for the arrests of Keith Reed, 22, and Andre Scott Nureni, 21, both of Washington, D.C., for armed robbery, 1st degree assault, theft less than $100, reckless endangerment and conspiracy to commit all of the aforementioned charges. Reed and Nureni are both currently being held in the District of Columbia jail pending extradition back to Montgomery County, Maryland.

On January 28, 2012, at approximately 10:09 p.m., Takoma Park Police responded to the area of Walnut Avenue at Westmoreland Avenue for the report of a citizen armed robbery that occurred earlier. While walking, the victim in this incident was approached by an unknown male suspect. When the victim turned to face the suspect, the suspect pointed a gun at him and demanded property. The victim complied and the suspect fled the scene on Walnut Avenue towards the District of Columbia. The victim did not suffer any physical injury. No suspects were apprehended at that time.

On February 3, 2012, at approximately 8:45 a.m., Takoma Park Police responded to the 100 block of Hodges Lane for reports of a citizen armed robbery. The victim was walking up the steps to his residence when he was approached by a black male with a black gun. He was ordered to give his property to the suspect to which he complied. He was then ordered to lie face down on the ground, to which he again complied, and the suspect then fled in an unknown direction. The victim did not suffer any physical injury. The suspect was described as a black male, 6’2-6’3, approximately 225 lbs., medium skin complexion, last seen wearing a black mask exposing his eyes and the upper portion of his face, gray hooded jacket, dark jeans (possibly dark gray or black), armed with a black gun which resembled a Glock. A look out was given to all surrounding jurisdictions.

Takoma Park detectives began looking at another case that resembled the two referenced above. It was determined that the suspect(s) may be driving a black Jeep Liberty vehicle. Information was shared between multi-jurisdictions of suspect and suspect vehicle information.

Through investigation, at approximately 8:05 p.m., Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) officers located the suspect Jeep Liberty in the 5000 block of 2nd Street, N.E., Washington, D.C. Officers observed an unknown occupant get into the vehicle and then the officer broadcast a look-out for the vehicle, which was seen fleeing down Nicholson Street and 3rd Street, N.E.

At approximately 8:08 p.m., several MPD units began a pursuit. During the pursuit, the suspect vehicle traveled in the opposite direction on streets, striking vehicles and objects. The suspect vehicle then stopped and both occupants bailed out of the vehicle. Nureni (suspect driver) bailed out of the rear trunk door while Reed (suspect passenger) exited the front right passenger door.

A foot pursuit ensued and Reed was apprehended shortly after. Reed had a rip in his jeans that occurred when he was jumping over a fence attempting to flee. Nureni was apprehended in the 4500 block of South Dakota Avenue, N.E. Nureni attempted to change his appearance by changing his clothing, however, his pants and gloves were recovered in the area. Nureni and Reed were both transported to the 4th District Station.

MPD K-9 was called to conduct a reverse track. A loaded Glock 19 handgun with rounds in the magazine were recovered near the first house where Reed was seen fleeing and where he ripped his jeans on the fence.
Reed and Nureni were identified by surveillance retrieved from a Suntrust ATM, as well as statements made by victims. MPD arrested Nureni on several traffic offenses and Reed on weapons charges.

A Takoma Park Police Detective filed detainers with the Metropolitan Police Department for both suspects, as well as arrest warrants for the two armed robberies.

Investigation continues. Chief Ricucci thanks the Metropolitan Police Department who jointly investigated these crimes. The working relationship between multi-jurisdictional police departments continues to be an invaluable tool.
