Chief Ronald A. Ricucci from the Takoma Park Police Department announces an arrest that was made by Prince George’s County Police of Maurice Santos Hernandez, 31, of Hyattsville, Maryland, for attempt car-jacking, attempt robbery, and first and second degree assault.

On May 19, 2012, at approximately 2:40 p.m., while at a theft from auto call in the 6400 block of New Hampshire Avenue, a Takoma Park Police officer observed a male chasing another from the shopping center in Prince George’s County and enter the City of Takoma Park. The officer pursued to investigate and learned that a witness to an attempt car-jacking was chasing the suspect, Hernandez. Hernandez had brandished a knife in the shopping center parking lot and attempted to car-jack a female and her children. Hernandez was able to get away from the witness who had chased him. A track led a Takoma Park K9 officer to Hernandez, who was in the woods in the area of 5th and Orchard Avenue. Hernandez was apprehended and turned over for arrest to Prince George’s County Police.
