Takoma Park Police Department Weekly Crime Report: 3/9/12 - 3/15/12

Ward 1:

Robbery

7100 blk. of Maple Ave., on Friday, March 9 at 10:58 p.m., officers responded to a robbery that just occurred. Two male suspects approached a male and female victim as they were walking. Suspect #1 produced an unknown weapon and demanded the couples property while suspect #2 acted as a lookout. In self defense the male victim used a pocket knife to fend off Suspect #1. Both suspects fled in opposite directions. Suspect #1 was located by officers at the Takoma Metro Station suffering from a stab wound and was transported to the hospital. A male 25, was charged with robbery upon release from the hospital. Suspect #2 remains unknown.

7300 blk. of Maple Ave., on Saturday, March 10 at 7:49 p.m., officers responded to a robbery that just occurred. A female victim was approached by a known male suspect while walking. The male suspect forcibly grabbed the victim’s purse and threatened her implying he had a gun. The victim complied and the suspect fled the scene. A male 23, was later located at the Takoma Metro Station and arrested. The victim was not injured.

Burglary Residential

7100 blk. of Carroll Ave., on Monday, March 12 at 8:00 p.m., officers responded to a burglary that occurred overnight. An unknown suspect gained access to the occupied house by unknown means and removed property as the victims slept before fleeing.

Ward 2:

Burglary Residential

300 blk. of Ethan Allen Ave., on Monday, March 12 at 4:18 a.m., officers responded to an attempted burglary that just occurred. A male suspect attempted to kick in the front door to a residence, but fled after being confronted by the homeowner.

Burglary Commercial

7600 blk. of Carroll Ave., on Friday, March 9 at 1:40 p.m., officers responded to a burglary that occurred earlier. Unknown suspect(s) removed property from an office by unknown means.

Ward 3:

Robbery

100 blk. of Grant Ave., on Friday, March 9 at 6:06 p.m., officers responded to an attempted robbery that just occurred. Three male suspects approached a male victim as he was walking. The suspects demanded the victims’ property and began to assault him. Suspect #1 produced a knife and attempted to stab the victim, however it did not penetrate. The victim was able to fend off the suspects who then fled the area. The victim suffered minor injuries.

Burglary Residential

7700 blk. of Garland Ave., on Wednesday, March 14 at 8:00 a.m., officers responded to a burglary that occurred overnight. Unknown suspect(s) attempted to gain entry into a vacate residence by prying the door but were unsuccessful.

Assault

8400 blk. of Flower Ave., on Saturday, March 10 at 2:07 a.m., officers responded to an assault that just occurred. Three male suspects approached a male victim as he was walking. Suspect #1 grabbed the victim while the other two suspects lunged toward him. The victim was able to fend the suspects off and the suspects fled on foot into Montgomery County. The victim was not harmed.

Ward 6:

Larceny

7600 blk. of New Hampshire Ave., on Tuesday, March 13 at 5:48 p.m., officers responded to a theft that occurred earlier. Unknown suspect(s) removed a rear vehicle license plate.

Auto Theft

7400 blk. of New Hampshire Ave., on Sunday, March 11 at 9:25 a.m., officers responded to an auto theft that occurred overnight. Unknown suspects removed the victim’s keys without permission and stole a silver 2003 BMW 530i and fled the scene.

Arrests:

Intersection of Lockney Ave. and Merrimac Dr., on Wednesday, March 14 at 12:01 a.m., two males 27 and 20 were arrested for disorderly conduct, open alcoholic container, and littering.

7400 blk. of New Hampshire Ave., on Sunday, March 11 at 7:04 p.m., a female 14 was arrested for being a chronic runaway and released to a guardian.

7400 blk. of New Hampshire Ave., on Sunday, March 11 at 1:01 a.m., a male 24 was arrested for having an open traffic warrant.

1300 blk. of University Blvd., on Tuesday, March 13 at 12:40 a.m., a female 19 was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia.

Intersection of University Blvd. and Merrimac Dr., on Monday, March 12 at 1:45 a.m., a female 38 was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia.

Piney Branch Rd., and Philadelphia Ave., on Saturday, March 10 at 4:59 a.m., a female 23 was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.

900 blk. of East West Hwy., on Thursday, March 15 at 3:10 a.m., a male 44 was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia.
