FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

On Sunday, April 1, 2012, the Takoma Park Police Department will suspend fingerprinting services to the public due to new Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) requirements.

The FBI implemented the Integrated Automated Fingerprint Identification System to process civil and criminal fingerprint submissions electronically, resulting in quicker processing and faster response times. As a result, the FBI has advised all public safety agencies that they will no longer accept hard-copy fingerprint cards.

Citizens needing fingerprint services can visit one of the several designated Live Scan fingerprint sites located throughout the State of Maryland. These sites are equipped with electronic fingerprinting systems and accepted by the FBI. For a listing of designated Live Scan sites, please visit www.dpscs.maryland.gov/publicservs/fingerprint.shtml.

These sites are also posted at the Administrative Services window.
