FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Chief Alan M. Goldberg from the Takoma Park Police Department announces the arrest of Isaiah Joseph Jackson, 28, of Washington, D.C., for Robbery and Theft over $1,000.

On March 12, 2013, at approximately 3:22 p.m., Takoma Park Police responded to a bank alarm at the Sun Trust Bank on Laurel Avenue, Takoma Park, Maryland, for a bank robbery in progress. Investigation revealed that the suspect gave a bank teller a note demanding money. The bank teller complied and the suspect fled the bank on foot on Laurel Avenue going towards the District of Columbia. A weapon was not seen during the bank robbery. A perimeter was established and all surrounding jurisdictions notified. Montgomery County Police K9 responded and conducted a track with negative results. Takoma Park Police's Criminal Investigation investigators and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agents responded to the bank and assisted in the investigation. The suspect was described as a black male, 5’1-5’3, 120-130 lbs., last seen wearing black pants, a red shirt, a black military style sweater, black tactical vest, black ski hat and black reading glasses.

Photographs of the suspect were obtained from bank video surveillance and disseminated to surrounding jurisdictions and local media.

On March 13, 2013, a tip was received identifying Jackson as the bank robber. A photograph of Jackson was obtained and matched the suspect in the bank robbery. A warrant was obtained for Jackson charging him with the bank robbery.

A detective with the Montgomery County Police Department/U.S. Marshal’s Regional Fugitive Task Force, by request of Takoma Park Police investigators, was able to locate Jackson in Washington, D.C. On March 28, 2013, Jackson was arrested. Investigation led detectives to items of evidentiary value linking Jackson to the bank robbery.

Jackson is currently being held at the District of Columbia Department of Corrections awaiting extradition back to the State of Maryland.

Chief Goldberg praises the working relationship of the multi-jurisdictions and says it is another example of various agencies working together to better serve the community
